Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Maldives as the Chief Guest for their 60th Independence Day celebrations is reflective of improved ties, enhanced trust between the two nations.

“As I conclude this productive visit to the Maldives, I extend my heartfelt thanks to President Muizzu, the Government and people of the Maldives for their warmth. I am deeply honoured to have witnessed the 60th Independence Day celebrations. The productive talks with President Muizzu will add significant energy to our bilateral relations,” said PM Modi.

President Muizzu while expressing his thanks to PM Modi for this state visit also said that this led to signing of additional MoUs between India and Maldives.

“We held fruitful discussions, witnessed the exchange of 4 MoUs and 3 agreements in vital areas, and announced the launch of FTA negotiations,” said President Muizzu.

The two leaders while celebrating the Maldives’ 60th Independence Day, released a commemorative stamp marking 60 years of formal ties, and inaugurated key development projects under Indian assistance.

This visit indicates a diplomatic breakthrough between the two nations which had a rough patch after President Muizzu assumed charge. The India our sentiment seems have flown away, and bilateral ties with India slated to be on the ascendant.
