President Murmu extended a warm welcome to Ambassador Hamidullah and reiterated the enduring and historic ties between India and Bangladesh. “We envision a democratic, stable, prosperous, and inclusive Bangladesh,” she stated, highlighting the shared sacrifices during the Liberation War of 1971 as the cornerstone of the bilateral relationship.
Emphasizing the importance of regional cooperation, President Murmu underscored the need for a joint vision focused on shared prosperity and enhanced connectivity. She also congratulated Bangladesh on assuming the chairmanship of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) for a two-year term.
Ambassador Hamidullah, a seasoned diplomat with over 30 years of service, assumed his duties in New Delhi on 14 April 2025, coinciding with the Bangla New Year. He succeeds Ambassador Mustafizur Rahman.
Conveying warm greetings from the Hon’ble President and people of Bangladesh, Ambassador Hamidullah reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening the multifaceted partnership between the two neighboring countries. He particularly emphasized the significance of deepening people-to-people ties and fostering greater engagement between the youth of both nations, who constitute the majority demographic.
Prior to his current role, Ambassador Hamidullah served as Secretary (West & Multilateral) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka. His diplomatic career includes key postings as Bangladesh’s Ambassador to the Netherlands and Sri Lanka, and assignments in New York, New Delhi, and at the SAARC Secretariat.
In addition to Ambassador Hamidullah, the envoys of Thailand, Costa Rica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, and Türkiye also presented their Letters of Credence during today’s ceremony.
The event marks a continuation of the strong diplomatic tradition between India and Bangladesh, reinforcing a partnership grounded in shared history, culture, and aspirations for a peaceful and prosperous South Asia.
